Welcome to the Mt. Morris, IL Website!

The 3,100 residents who call Mt. Morris home enjoy a safe, proud, beautiful Village where the past and the present blend to provide a quality of life that only a small mid-western town can provide.

Mt. Morris is the home of the official State Freedom Bell. This beautiful bell, located on the historic College Campus Village Square, is rung with great pride every July 4th at 1:00 P.M. to celebrate our precious heritage of freedom. The bell ringing is part of the annual Let Freedom Ring Celebration. For over 50 years the Village has invited thousands to enjoy the festival. A huge parade, fireworks, speeches, music, a fun walk/run and other activities fill several days with activites for all ages. The festival is planned by an all volunteer committee and is funded by private donations.

Mt. Morris is a community of volunteers who work tirelessly on endless projects to make our Village the best. On summer evenings the community gathers at the Campus Band Shell to enjoy a free concert performed by the Kable Concert Band and to cool off with a treat from the ice cream social. As you sit there under the stars in the shadows of the over 150 year-old College buildings, you can let your thoughts wander back to 1839 when proud Old Sandstone was the home of the Rock River Seminary which provided a college education to the early settlers.

The printing and publishing industry has been a part of Mt. Morris history since we were established in 1848 as a Village. Today more than 1,000 people are employed in Mt. Morris by Kable News Company and World Color Press (originally Kable Brothers Printing and formerly Quebecor World Printing).

We would like to welcome you to enjoy one of our fine restaurants, a game of golf, our Let Freedom Ring Celebration, a walk in our parks, a band concert, a stroll to take in the historic campus and learn the history and enjoy the beauty of the old college buildings, or one of the many enjoyable activities that we as a Village provide.
