Straw Sculpting Competition Free Concert – Jazz in Progress
Saturday, August 8, Jazz in Progress brings its exceptional talent to the Warren G. Reckmeyer band shell. This nonprofit ensemble is known for its engaging live performances, community impact, and faithful renditions of classic swing and jazz standards, and 60s/70s funk. Jazz in Progress, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has channeled its concert proceeds back into local school music programs and the DeKalb County Community Foundation since 2012.
U.S. National Straw Sculpting Competition free concerts are 7-9 p.m. on the Mt. Morris campus, August 8, 15, and 22. There are some handicap-accessible permanent benches and lots of green space for lawn chairs. Explore the straw sculptures and vote for your favorite! Sample the food scene and visit the art gallery or museum on campus. The concerts are free, although donations are welcome.
