June is Jammin’!
My town, Mt. Morris, is jammed with music, activities, and fun in June. And it starts with the free summer concerts.
- June 10, 7:30 p.m., free Kable Band concerts begin at the Warren G. Reckmeyer bandshell on the square, and continue every Wednesday through July. Support a local non-profit offering treats during the performance.
- June 12, 7 p.m., the free Friday Night Jamboree concerts kick off with the classic rock of Jonny Lyons and the Pride. Bring your lawn chair and arrive early for best seats. Food trucks and nonprofits serve a variety of food options. It’s a street party every week! Complete summer schedule at MyTownJams.com.
- June 13, 1-5 p.m., free mini concerts fill the porches around town during Porchfest. Details at encoreporchfest.info.
There’s much more than free music in Mt. Morris. Enjoy outstanding free programs from the Mt. Morris Public Library, 105 S. McKendrie Ave. Open to all – no library card needed. Here are a few. Discover more on their website.
- June 4, 5:30 p.m. Hoo Haven, the animal sanctuary, brings birds and mammals to the library for up close lessons in wildlife for the whole family.
- June 7, 5:30 p.m., step into the life of America’s Golden Girl, Betty White, by historical presenter Michelle Gibbons.
- June 10, 6 p.m., learn all about container gardening in this fun, free class.
June 6, 8-9:30 a.m., have “Breakfast with the Mayor” or other Village officials at the Mt. Morris Senior and Community Center, 9 E. Front St., and on June 17, come for free bingo at 10:30 a.m. and stay for lunch. Those are a few of many activities open to the public at The Center. Discover more on their calendar.
Encore Mt. Morris opens its 10th anniversary fine arts season in June with the popular Annual Area Student Art Show at College Hall, 16 S. Wesley Ave., on the campus. The art gallery and the Mt. Morris Museum are open on Wednesday and Friday evenings during concerts. And it’s not too late to join the June 4 Chicago bus tour. Register at encore.com by June 3.
