Appreciate Winter in Mt. Morris
Now that the holidays are over, it may seem like a bleak stretch of winter ahead. But don’t hibernate – celebrate! It’s time to investigate the seasonal activities you can only find in and around Mt. Morris.
The Great Outdoors
When snow falls the snowmobilers hit the trails. There are several marked trails and routes throughout the area.
Hike, snowshoe, or cross-country ski the trails at Castle Rock, Lowden-Miller, and White Pines state parks or the Byron Forest Preserve – all just minutes from Mt. Morris.
Wildlife abounds! In-season hunting is allowed in some of the parks. Check out the Hunt Illinois directory here. And don’t forget that fishing is a year-round activity in nearby Rock River, especially near the dam in Oregon.
Bring it Inside
We are in luck. January 10, 11 and 12, the Performing Arts Guild will present “Christmas Eve in Chaos” at the Allure Pinecrest Grove Theater. Expect laughter, live theater, and well, chaos.
Live performances are on tap at the local pubs where the music is kickin’ and there’s always a game or two to cheer on. You can relive or rewrite your high school memories at the Idle Hour’s adult prom, January 18.
The whole family can create roller skating memories at the Rink at Pine Creek. Or, strike up family fun at Town and Country Lanes bowling alley on the east side of Mt. Morris.
Learn about the birth of our town and see fascinating artifacts and images at the Mt. Morris Historical Museum, in the lobby of College Hall, 16 S. Wesley (on the campus). Free admission to the museum, open the third Saturday of each month, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Shop Local
Here in the 61054 you can find hidden gems at a busy resale shop, home decor and gifts at the pharmacy, or almost anything you need at the general store.
So, brave the cold and appreciate why Mt. Morris is a great place to live or visit in winter – and, year-round. Discover more on our site.
