Fire Chief Robert G. Hough IV
The Mt. Morris Fire Protection District is a district – not a department of the Village – that protects both the Village residents and the 1,900 people in 45 surrounding square miles of farms and fields.
The District is led by a full-time Fire Chief and staffed by 30 dedicated, paid-on-call volunteer firefighters, a full-time Paramedic EMS Service, and a volunteer Fire Chaplain. The District responds to about 175 fire alarms and 750 EMS calls each year.
History
A motion of the Village Board officially organized the Mt. Morris Fire Department on July 7th, 1889. Before that, the citizens of Mt. Morris formed bucket brigades when a fire broke out.
New Firehouse
With the help of Federal, State, and local funding, the District is planning a new firehouse that will be located about one block north of the current building. Construction will begin in the spring of 2024 and be completed in early 2025.
