Visitors flock to Mt. Morris for the Let Freedom Ring festival on the July 4th holiday. This event hits all the small-town nostalgia buttons with activities ranging from an ice cream social to crowning a festival Queen and ringing the official Freedom Bell of Illinois. (Learn more about our historic bell here.) Festival days are filled with fun for the young like the Kiddie Parade, bounce houses, and water fights. Young at heart will like the silent auction, car show, vendors, and free concerts. Local pubs and businesses get in on the fun, too, with specials and entertainment.
We’re known for impressive fireworks – always on July 4 – and legendary breakfasts at the Mt. Morris Fire Department and the Ogle County Airport on the east edge of Mt. Morris. Choose either breakfast and you’ll see lots of local folks along with visitors and have a chance to catch up with alumni returning to town.
Mt. Morris has a unique and historic Village Square campus, the heart of town, and home base for festival activities. While you enjoy the picturesque green spaces and historic buildings be sure to stop by the Old Sandstone Art Gallery art show, the newly reopened Historic Mt. Morris Museum in College Hall, and the newly refurbished Memorial Fountain on the northeast corner of campus.
Mt. Morris has a fascinating history – celebrated July 4th and still on display on the campus. Learn more about our story here. And explore our Let Freedom Ring festival at My Town Rings!
