Best Free Concerts
in the Region
Mt. Morris is filled with excellent local and regional musicians during the summer. Whether you are a fan of intimate solo acts, classical bands, big concerts, or kickin’ bar bands, there is something for every musical taste from big band through folk to country or classic rock.
Easily accessible and with free on-street parking, the Warren Reckmeyer bandshell on the campus square is an ideal performance venue, offering rows of permanent seating and beautiful shaded grounds for setting up lawn chairs or just grabbing a spot on the grass. Make it a date night or bring the family and visit our food trucks, Sandstone Art Gallery, and markets on concert nights.
Pubs near the campus square host live bands. And don’t miss our free Porchfest event in June, when area musicians perform on porches and lawns around town. Walk or bike from location to location for fun, intimate performances in a range of musical styles.
Concerts on the Campus
Mt. Morris Jamboree
Concerts are held weekly, on Fridays, 7-9 p.m., June through August and can easily draw more than a thousand people for popular bands. Arrive early to get a good spot and sample the food scene, visit the art gallery on campus, or shop the sidewalk vendors. The concerts are free, although donations are welcome!
Kable Concert Band
A charming slice of rural Americana that reminds you of simpler times and small-town pleasures. Talented area musicians have performed in this municipal band at the bandshell on the campus square every year since 1896. The free concert is every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. during the summer. Band members and guest performers and conductors are some of the best in the region. Arrive early for the Ice Cream Social hosted weekly by various local organizations.
The Let Freedom Ring festival and National Straw Sculpting Competition offer free concerts during the year. Check the schedules at Encore Mt. Morris or our EVENT CALENDAR.
