Summer bursts into town on June 7 when the Friday night Mt. Morris Jamboree concerts kick off with Brass From the Past, a classic rock and soul band. It’s the first in a summer filled with free Friday night concerts, 7 to 9 p.m. at the bandshell on the campus square. There are some handicap accessible benches, free on-street parking, and lots of green space for lawn chairs. Come early for the food, fun and party atmosphere of the best free concerts in Ogle County.
The Old Sandstone Gallery & Arts Center, 122 S. Wesley (on the campus square), also opens its season on June 7, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., with a Student Art Show, featuring works from local students. Enjoy the talented artists from elementary through high school.
The Mt. Morris Historical Museum re-opens June 7, from 6 to 9 p.m., in its new location at College Hall, 16 S. Wesley, on the campus square. Explore the new exhibit which tells the story of Mt. Morris’ early years. It’s the first step of many in the museum’s big move to its new home in the newly renovated, easily accessible College Hall.
There’s no time to catch your breath before Porchfest fills Mt. Morris with a crowd-pleasing range of music pouring off porches and lawns on Saturday, June 8, from 1 to 5 p.m. Grab your lawn chair and plan to walk, bike or drive to locations every hour for a different musical experience.
